July 31.09 Ergon is still takin it a little easy from his sore hooves. The beach helped them out alot. Soft ground and salt water. A perfect combination. Gonna start working on lead changes and more ground work next week. He is willing and ready!!
July 23.09 Ergon taking a bow and enjoying some sweet feed. When I whistle for him he comes runnin into the round pen to eat. What a guy!!!!! In the last week or so he has had some tender feet. So he's been takin it easyyyyyyyyyy.
July 13.09 WOW!!! It's gone so fast, the first 30 days. He is such an honor to work with. He is a spectacular horse!!!!!!!!!! Who ever adopts Ergon is gonna be one lucky guy or gal.
It's trail time again and boy!! is it a scorcher!!!! Ergon loves wide open spaces. Through milo fields and up and down the canals. Just running through some open fields. Also some natural obstacle courses.
YeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaHaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Me and Ergon went out today for the first time trail riding for about 2 hours. I had him walk, trotting and loping. NO FENCES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Worked on more desensitizing today, also. He had an issue with the tarp, walking over it wasn't the problem. When it would be flopping in the air he thought it was his worse nightmare coming true. I have a Mustang filly in the pasture with him, and I had the tarp laying around. She grabbed it with her mouth and ran straight for him, flopped it right on his back. At least I had a good foundation on him. LOL!!!!!!!
Here we are using what comes natural to the Rio Grande Valley, a palm tree leaf to desensitize him. Just as good as a plastic bag. We also tried out the trailer loading and unloading and he did it like a pro.
Ergon tied to the tree of knowledge so the training will stick. LOL!!! After a hard days work, I washed him and he showed his appreciation by rolling in the dirt. LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
First time gettin the saddle cinched. He really did well. When I was moving him around in the round pen he just arched his back a couple of times. NO hard bucking!!LOL!!
Jun 15.09 First time putting on the saddle pad for about 10 minutes and then I put on the saddle. He took it really well. I didn't know what to expect. I haven't cinched it on yet at this point.
I grew up in Weslaco, Texas. I have 7 brothers and sisters. I started horse training 5 years ago. Believe it or not Elvis started it all,LOL, he's my horse. I also enjoy raising dogs, mainly heelers.
